National TV and radio funny-man, Beau Ryan, is a pretty cool guy. But now that he has partnered with PlayStation, we took the opportunity to chat with him about all things PS4, NRL and his brand new diploma…
What’s your top tip or technique to play it cool this summer?
Beau: Being cool doesn’t come easily for everyone, I, however have perfected being cool over the years and now have deemed myself the Master of Cool.
I’ve teamed up with PlayStation Australia for their summer campaign, encouraging Aussies to ‘Play It Cool’ so I have a bit of experience in this area. This summer I’ve spent a lot of my time inside escaping the heat in the hottest hours of the day with the family with the PlayStation, that’s my top tip.
What top three traits should any ‘cool’ gamer possess?
Beau: Any cool gamer should have the following things:
- A killer gaming setup, including a great console (I have a PS4).
- A winning attitude, no sore losers.
- If all else fails, air-conditioning. Lots and lots of air conditioning.

You have been granted a ‘Diploma of Being Cool’ – what kind of study/training was required for such an achievement?
Beau: You know, I’ve done a lot of training before with the NRL, but nothing has quite tested my mental and psychical strength like my Diploma of Being Cool.’
Besides having the innate ‘cool’ gene that has allowed me to master my studies…. lots of pepping myself up in front of the mirror. Nah, who am I kidding – I’m a bit of a walking “face palm” emoji, especially to my kids!
How about NRL games. Do you have a favourite?
Beau: Rugby League Live 4 is a goodie. I’m actually rubbish at playing it which is pretty ironic. I’ve really been loving more games like Marvel’s Spider-Man… my kids love it to, they’re crazy about it, especially my daughter.

What’s the hottest video game on the horizon for you?
Beau: The family favourite at the moment is some of the virtual reality experiences on the VR headset. Can’t wait to see what else they can bring out so we can enjoy them together. Otherwise I’m looking forward to an upcoming VR game called Dreams, it looks pretty great.
If you only had one game to play all summer long, what would it be and why?
Beau: For me, I love first player games like Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War, but more often than not I’m with the kids so we like to play multiplayer titles. In that instance, any of PlayStation’s PlayLink titles are great to involve the whole family, we just get our phones out and play, super easy!
What’s the coolest thing about video games for you?
Beau: For me, it’s a great way for me to connect with my family. Normally we’re running around in the heat outside, but this summer has been a scorcher, and so it’s been nice to spend some quality time together indoors.
