Australian comedy sensation Becky Lucas has had her account removed from Twitter, after making a joke about decapitating Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
Lucas took to Twitter last week to deliver this wisdom “every politician is a disgusting cunt. They’re pathetic social climbers who only care about their self image. I honestly think we need to chop their heads off”. She followed this tweet up with a direct tweet to the PM, telling him she was “gonna chop your fucking head off”.
Lucas’ account was permanently suspended on the grounds that she had posted “threatening” or “violent content”, as Junkee reports.

Lucas has used this incident to highlight a double standard. Pointing out that woman REGULARLY receive rape and death threats, and those responsible for sending them often face no repercussions.
In an interview with Fairfax, Lucas has detailed “I’ve definitely had people tweet horrible things at me and nothing gets done about it. If a guy says, ‘I’ll kill you’ it’s like, yeah, you probably could. There’s a listing of my gigs out there. If I joke that I’m going to chop the PM’s head off… as if? Mine is so clearly absurd.”
Becky Lucas has made a statement about the whole debacle, which was shared through comedian Cameron James’ Twitter account. In the statement, Lucas says “I learnt that we should never make jokes about the Prime Minister because it’s very serious, as opposed to the threats of rape and assault that women get from men on twitter (which is fine because that never actually happens!!!)
