Netflix’s hit series Black Mirror is slated to return for a sixth season, the streaming giant has confirmed.

Netflix’s Black Mirror is returning for a sixth season, the streaming giant has confirmed.

A new exclusive by Variety states that the acclaimed show, which presents thought-provoking, futuristic tales about the effects of modern technology, will be returning to screens three years after its previous season.

While details about the show are still under wraps, it’s confirmed that the new instalment will have more episodes than Season 5. Each episode will also exceed 60 minutes in length, being treated as individual movies.

This will also be the first instalment of the show since principal creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones separated from their production company House of Tomorrow in 2020.

At the time, the pair’s departure threw doubt on the series’ future, since rights to the show still remained with Endemol Shine Group, parent to House of Tomorrow. At the time, even Brooker seemed unsure of what would become of Black Mirror in an interview shortly after.

“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.” he said in an interview.

However, it seems Broke and Bones — Brooker and Jones’ production house that picked up massive funding from Netflix — and Banijay Rights — the distribution arm of Banijay Group, which bought Endemol and thus the format and finished-tape rights to “Black Mirror” — struck a deal, which made this new instalment possible.
