While plenty of us are laser-focused on getting our morning coffee each day, our city’s homeless are trying to get a place to spend the night, but there’s a brilliant initiative hitting Sydney this week to help everyone out at once.

CafeSmart is an effort by the team at StreetSmart that rolls out every year, taking a dollar from every coffee sold at the participating cafes and using it to help the local homeless population, and it’s kicking off again this Friday August 4.

500 cafes are participating across the country, with over 200 of those in Sydney, and you can head here to find out if your local bean-squeezers are in. They’ll all be trying to beat last year’s tally of over $160,000, which just goes to show how much coffee we all guzzle down.

If you want to donate more than $1 without having to drink a heart-stopping amount of caffeine, you can give a little more at the counter.

Head here for the full list of cafes, and more info about CafeSmart and StreetSmart, which has raised almost $4.5m since it began in 2003.
