Caitlyn Jenner is reportedly about to try her hand at politics, “actively exploring” the possibility of becoming the governor of California.

The news comes from a report from Axios, which cites three unnamed sources “with direct knowledge of her deliberations.”

Reporters Jonathan Swan and Alayna Treene say Jenner is being helped by an experienced Republican Party fundraiser, Caroline Wren, who previously worked for a fundraising committee supporting former president Donald Trump’s re-election campaign.

That Jenner’s previous experience amounts to being an Olympian and reality TV personality doesn’t exactly scream ‘viable politician’ but ever since Trump gained the highest office, U.S. politics and entertainment have been inextricable.

And of course Arnold Schwarzenegger also served as governor of California from 2003 until 2011 – Jenner might actually be overqualified, all things considered.

The reason Jenner is considering the move is due to the current governor’s precarious position: Democrat Gavin Newsom is likely to face a recall election later this year to determine if he’s to get the boot.

California is one of 20 U.S. states to allow recalls to take place. Organisers have to collect enough signatures to match at least 12% of turnout in the last gubernatorial election, which in this example amounts to around 1.5 million signatures.

And the organisers believe they’ve already reached that mark, partly as a result of Newsom’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, amongst other issues.

Intriguingly, the only person to ever become California governor through a recall is – you guessed it – Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Jenner first rose to prominence when she won gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympics. She more famously went on to star on Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

With Kim divorcing Kanye and now Caitlyn possibly looking at a life in politics, 2021 is set to be a huge year for the Kardashians and Jenners.
