Hours after the Queen’s death, the name ‘Camilla’ trended on Twitter as people showed support for Princess Diana.

In case you’re out of the loop (or don’t have internet), Queen Elizabeth passed away earlier today at the age of 96. Her death marked the end of a 70-year-reign, the longest of any British monarch in history.

With her passing, her eldest son Charles, formerly Prince of Wales is now King. Accordingly, Charles’ wife Camilla, formerly Duchess of Cornwall, is now Queen Consort.

That’s exactly what Twitter is wilding about.

The Royal Family has had its fair share of drama and controversy, but perhaps the most sustaining of them all was the marriage between Charles and his first wife, Diana Spencer, Princess of Wales. Despite being his wife and mother to the couple’s sons Princes William and Harry, Charles and Diana had a troubled marriage and an even more public separation.

The Royal Family’s treatment of Diana has been the subject of much debate and controversy – even Harry weighed in, supporting his mother. Diana herself said in an interview that there were ‘three of us’ in her marriage, alluding to Camilla, with whom Charles maintained contact even during their marriage and married after their divorce.

Despite their short-lived marriage, Diana has been one of the most beloved figures in the British monarchy, garnering not just public support but also multiple documentaries and fictional series documenting the unfair treatment she received at the hands of the Royal Family.

So, yeah, people on Twitter were not happy with Camilla now becoming Queen Consort – and showed up in support of Princess Diana.

“Idc what y’all say she should’ve hold her breath till charles and camilla die… can’t see this woman succeed.” said one Twitter user.

Why? Well, this explains it.

Here’s how the internet reacted to realising that Camilla would now be Queen Consort.
