In news that will no doubt delight Aussie Tiger King devotees, the upcoming Carole Baskin-focused TV show is set to be filmed in Australia.

Despite currently being titled Joe Exotic, the series is said to focus on Baskin, as portrayed by Saturday Night Live‘s Kate McKinnon.

Based on the popular podcast of the same name, the show will centre around the pair’s rivalry, as well as Baskin‘s mission to close down Exotic’s infamous zoo.

Having first been announced in November 2019, months before the notorious documentary was released, the series will debut on NBC in the US.

At this time, it is not yet known who will take on the title role of Joe ‘Exotic’ Schreibvogel.

The series is just one of three TV shows to have been given a combined $19.5 million from the Federal Government to be produced across Queensland, as reported by NME.

The other upcoming shows included in the funding are Young Rock, a comedy inspired by the life of Dwayne ‘The Rock Johnson’, and Irreverant, a drama that follows a criminal from New York who is forced to hide out in Far North Queensland.

In a statement via Screen Queensland, Arts Minister Paul Fletcher said it’s “no surprise” that Australia has been chosen by several overseas studios as the place to produce their shows.

“Australia’s production sector is world-class so it’s no surprise that we’re attracting the attention of international studios that are choosing to film their next hit TV shows here,” he said.

“The productions will provide invaluable opportunities for Australian cast and crew, create a pipeline of work for local post-production, digital and visual effects businesses, and engage workers in sectors such as construction, transport, accommodation and hospitality.”
