Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull appeared at the Mardi Gras over the weekend to a sea of hisses and boos, but that didn’t stop him from getting a selfie with Cher, or rewriting history with the following comment: “It’s 40 years old, and 40 years ago Lucy and I had our first date, so our love affair is a result of Mardi Gras.”

As The Star Observer have pointed out, shortly after Turnbull tweeting the selfie, a number of displeased folk hit up Cher to let her know what kinda man she took a snap with.

And because Cher is a legend, she engaged in the conversation, before apologising for the photo’s existence.

“Am so sorry. Guess that’s why I have few friends who are politicians. He seemed very open and excited about Mardi Gras and LGBTI community.”

“Very open and excited”. Well, it is good politics…
