The City Of Sydney are hoping to refurnish 40% of street frontage between Oxford Square and Taylor Square – the idea being that a community-minded developer will bring the area back to its glory days.

“We’re looking for an experienced operator with a track record of working in and refurbishing heritage buildings to transform three retail spaces along Oxford Street”, writes Lord Mayor Clover Moore.

“Our studies show that unique and independent, high-quality food and beverage offerings, specialty retailers and entertainment will work best – setting Oxford Street apart from the massive retail centres at either end.

“Most importantly, the successful operator will have to provide the equivalent in floor space that we’ve made available to creative tenants since 2012 – the Oxford Street creative spaces program has attracted more than 100,000 visitors to the area and we’re still very much committed to supporting our small businesses and cultural life in Darlinghurst.”

The lease will be for 99 years, which is a substantial amount of time to get things done.
