Empty 10¢ drink containers might seem  insignificant, but if they end up in landfill, they’ve not disappeared at all.

Containers for Change is striving for a brighter future for WA by giving people a reason to get up, get out there and recycle. Every 10¢ container returned to one of their 262 refund points will be given a second life, again and again… and again.

The benefits, however, go far beyond refunds. Containers for Change have created 821 jobs across WA, and since October 2020, over $6.1 million in 10¢ refunds have been donated to schools, charities, community groups and local clubs by everyday Western Australians. Together, WA has saved over 1.65 billion 10¢ containers from landfill – that’s $165 million back into our community.

It’s been a positive and encouraging journey so far, but there is still a long road ahead. 530 million 10¢ containers have their potential snuffed out, ending up in landfill every year – not only do those containers miss out on being recycled, but that’s $53 million in potential refunds, which could be much-needed donations. We all need to keep stepping up.

HOW TO BE THE CHANGE

  1. Save Your Containers & Lids

If your drink container has a 10¢ mark, you can be sure it’s recyclable with Containers for Change. Most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and carton drink containers that are 150ml to 3L can be saved. And don’t forget to take the lids off – Containers for Change can recycle them too, just separately.

  1. Bring Them To A Refund Point

Containers for Change have 262 refund points across WA, so your local refund point may be closer than you think!

  1. Earn A Refund Or Donate

Get 10¢ for every container you return.

Refund points offer payment options to suit you, including bank transfer, PayPal, vouchers,  cash, or you can donate it to a charity or community group.

To make your return quick and easy, create a free Containers for Change member number account where you can set a preferred payment method (including donation), and during your return your refund will be automatically processed without any fuss.

WHAT HAPPENS TO ALL THE RETURNED 10¢ CONTAINERS?

Western Australians are doing an extraordinary job at saving 10¢ containers from landfill, but there is still a long way to go. So, if you see a 10¢ mark on your drink container, bring it to a Containers for Change refund point.

By recycling with Containers for Change, 10¢ containers can reach their potential instead of ending up in landfill. That way, we’re protecting our environment, creating jobs and supporting our local communities.
