Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that it’s likely coronavirus restrictions will be relaxed from May 8th.
The National Cabinet was set to discuss relaxing the baseline restrictions on May 11th — but this has been moved forward to May 8th.
‘Australians have earned an early mark for the work that they have done,’ the Prime Minister said. “We will be meeting twice over the course of the next week to ensure that we can work through the many things that have to be resolved in order to make those decisions.
“Our plan has been to get the virus under control, and ensure that we can contain it.”
He further emphasised the importance of downloading the COVIDSafe app to ensure that easing of coronavirus restrictions is possible. “It’s over to you Australia.”
Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy told the National Cabinet that 15 conditions should be met before restrictions could be relaxed. Out of those 15 conditions, 11 have already been met.
