We go hands-on with Corsair’s new HS65 Wireless Gaming Headset to see if it’s worth cracking open the piggy bank for.
While there’s certainly no shortage of gaming headsets on the market, take a cheeky glance at the Corsair HS65 Wireless Gaming Headset and you’ll know it means business. From the unit’s incredibly clean black finish to its plush cushioning, there’s a lot to enjoy, and I’ve been doing exactly that for the last few weeks.
A newer variation of Corsair’s previous HS65 SURROUND, the HS65 cuts the cord for wireless compatibility via the included USB receiver or Bluetooth. Connectivity is easy and allows for 7.1 surround sound compatibility with PC and full Tempest 3D audio support for PlayStation 5, making it an appealing option for multi-format gamers.
Weighing in at around 275g, the HS65 Wireless is surprisingly lightweight and pretty comfy on the head, even during lengthier sessions across multiple systems. That’s an especially impressive feat considering the reinforced aluminium that is used for much of the headset’s joints. The choice to finish the unit’s memory foam ear cups with material instead of opting for 100% leatherette also makes them much more breathable and helped me avoid any sweaty ears.
When you are in the midst of gaming, the HS65 Wireless’s 50mm neodymium audio drivers do well to pump out a well-rounded soundscape no matter what you’re playing. From Jedi Survivor to Resident Evil 4, there was a decent balance at play here that, while obviously not as strong as top-tier headsets, delivered great bang for your buck as a mid-range offering. The bass could use a bit more love, but I did appreciate being able to tinker with the overall sound profile with Corsair’s iCue software on PC.
If I had to nit-pick, I wish the HS65’s microphone was detachable whenever you were deep into a single-player adventure, although it does neatly tuck away so shouldn’t cause any unwanted distractions when not in use.
Priced $239, Corsair’s HS65 Wireless certainly isn’t cheap, but tows the line well to position itself as a solid offering in an incredibly competitive market. Well worth a look.
