Home and Away actor Matt Evans, who plays Theo Poulos on the soap has returned a positive COVID test.

In an Instagram story, Poulos told his followers that he thought his COVID symptoms were simply hayfever.

“I’ve never had Covid before so I’m like, I’m invincible to Covid. I was like, never gonna get it,” he told fans. “Jacqui’s had Covid, so I was like, I can’t get Covid,” he said. He then showed Purvis, who plays Felicity Newman on the show, and she interrupted saying “Next minute!” as Evans showed his two positive COVID tests.

“Oh it’s definitely not hay fever then is it? No!” he added.

Evans and Purvis work together on Home and Away and live together. The pair weren’t isolated from one another so there’s a chance that Purvis could have gotten it too.

“The health and safety of all Seven West Media employees is paramount,” they told Digital Spy.

“With the ongoing COVID-19 related restrictions, Home and Away’s scheduled two-week production break has been extended as a precautionary response to the current pandemic.”

And, the set had previously been shut down when the pandemic first began in 2020. In March, Home & Away was pulled off air for two weeks and replaced with a news program.

“We will be back,” the show said on Instagram at the time. “We are in this together and we will get through this together.

“Stay safe and healthy. Love from all at Home and Away.”

At the same time, a Seven Studios spokesperson explained that filming was shut down over “increasing logistical hurdles”.

“Seven Studios advised today that it would halt filming of Home and Away immediately,” they said.

“It confirmed that no cast or crew had tested positive for COVID-19, but that the decision was made due to the increasing logistical hurdles related to the COVID-19 situation.”
