If you’re best known as “Scary Spice”, you may as well live up to the title by having a fearsome reputation. Dave Hughes found this to be true about Mel B while filming The Masked Singer 2022.
During his guest appearance on The Project this weekend, the comedian opened up about his relationship with his co-judge.
“We’ve got a new panel. We’re actually already filming, and it’s hectic! Absolutely hectic. I tell you what – I know why Scary Spice is called Scary Spice,” he revealed. “I love her, and she knows it, but me and her have a relationship going. She told me to beep off in our first meeting.”
According to Hughesy, the pair butted heads due to their equally strong personalities. “Because I’ve got my own ideas and she has hers, and sometimes they clash. I love her though. And she knows I love her,” he considered.
Some of the comedian’s funny but clearly wrong guesses on the show also annoyed the Spice Girls icon. “When I guess Taylor Swift, she goes, ‘I know Taylor. She isn’t that tall’. I said, ‘You haven’t seen her for a few months – she might have shrunk’,” he recalled. Guessing dead people didn’t go down well either. “I keep guessing dead people on the show. She doesn’t understand that’s my thing. She just doesn’t understand,” he added.
Mel B is one of three new judges arriving for The Masked Singer season four. The singer and Hughes will be joined by Chrissie Swan and Abbie Chatfield, with the latter recently revealing her whopping payday of $100,000 to be on the show.
That figure might be impressive but it’s reportedly only a fifth of what Mel B is getting. “I am 100 per cent getting paid the least and I am 100 per cent the last person they asked, but worth it!” Chatfield said on her radio show, taking the monetary discrepancy well. “I love being the smallest name and getting paid the least because I’m just slowly crawling my way to the top of the media pyramid in Australia!”
