Tomorrow is December 1st, which means that the month in which shopping malls are packed, and screaming children demand that their parents buy them the newest Furby (or whatever is popular these days), is upon us. Of course, it’s also a season of giving, which is exactly what US rapper DMX has done; gifting fans an official cover of ‘Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer’.

Fans might recall how half a decade ago, DMX went viral with his seemingly-off the cuff cover of the Christmas classic. Now, after years of the track trading between fans as a low-quality, YouTube-ripped mp3, DMX has allowed Christmas to come early with the release of an official version of the track.

Released as part of Spotify’s Holiday Singles playlist, the cover sees the gravelly-voiced wordsmith bashing out a surprisingly cheerful version of the holiday staple. Complete with hyped-up chants in the background, and stereotypically cheesy Christmas bells in the foreground, the track is easily one of the highlights of the playlist, and is enough for even those with the most hardened of hearts to get into the holiday spirit.

Spotify’s Holiday Singles playlist also includes a bunch of other big-name artists getting into the festive spirit, with Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Jack Johnson, Wolf Alice, and ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij all contributing tracks to the collection.

Of course, if this isn’t quite your speed, a number of other artists have also released Christmas albums this year, including Chris Isaak, Gwen Stefani, and even Adelaide’s own Sia, who released Everyday Is Christmas just a matter of days ago.

Of course, the question now is whether or not DMX will cave in to public pressure and release his first Christmas album. Considering his recent cover, we certainly can’t wait until DMXmas is released, hopefully sooner rather than later.
