Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge are about to make Mr. & Mrs. Smith iconic all over again.

As reported by Variety, inspired by the 2005 movie starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the movie is being reimagined as a TV series for Amazon Prime.

Glover and Waller-Bridge will both not only be starring in the series, but will be executive producing it, too.

How did the concept come about?

According to New Regency executive producers, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer, “Having had the pleasure of successful collaborations with the incredibly talented Donald Glover, most recently on Guava Island, we all started talking about other projects to do together and when he suggested the idea of a new take and iteration on the New Regency film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

Head of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke shared, “Talk about the dream team! Donald and Phoebe are two of the most talented creators and performers in the world. It’s truly a dream for us, as it will be for our global audience, to have these two forces of nature collaborating as a powerhouse creative team.”

She continued, “’Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ is an iconic property, and we can’t wait to see how Donald, Phoebe and Francesca make it their own. We’re thrilled to be working with them, and with such great partners at New Regency.”

As per Varietythe latest project is neither actor’s first with the studio. In 2019, Waller-Bridge both created and starred in Fleabag and Glover’s Guava Island is also an Amazon Original.

Outside the realm of Amazon Studios, the pair also played alongside each other in the 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Story movie.

With the original entertainment company (New Regency) working on the new series, not to mention the awesome cast, this sounds like it’s going to be one hell of a good one to watch.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith series is expected to release in 2022.
