The password for the Twitter account of President Donald Trump has been revealed and honestly it’s beyond parody.

Back in October, a Dutch man named Victor Gevers made the bold claim that he logged into Trump’s Twitter account by correctly guessing his password to be “maga2020!”. He even shared screenshots at the time to provide proof for his claims.

Gevers was no naive or bored individual though. As a cyber-security researcher, he said he was purposefully conducting a semi-regular sweep of Twitter accounts associated with the U.S. election when his triumphant guessing of Trump’s password occurred.

The White House of course were quick to deny the news but we finally have confirmation. As per The Guardian, Dutch prosecutors who examined the case confirmed on Friday, December 18th, that Gevers did actually guess that password correctly. What a hero.

The findings of Team High-tech Crime, the Dutch police specialist cyber unit, have been shared and they prove that Gevers’s claims were in fact true.

“We believe the hacker has actually penetrated Trump’s Twitter account,” said the Netherlands public prosecutor’s office, “but [he] has met the criteria that have been developed in case law to go free as an ethical hacker.”

Although hacking is a criminal offence in the Netherlands, since Gevers used “responsible disclosure” his hack falls under the “special circumstances” that could prevent any prosecutors from taking action against him.

His decision to disclose the hack immediately to U.S. authorities and urge the President to strengthen his social media privacy might have absolved Gevers of any punishment.

Gevers and Trump also allegedly already have previous together. Back in 2016, he supposedly guessed the President’s password for the first time: Gevers guessed “yourefired” (based on Trump’s stint on the TV show The Apprentice) and this granted him access to the Twitter account.
