I’m sorry to break it to you all, but Dr Phil has declared that he doesn’t want to be your daddy.

Who is calling Dr Phil ‘Daddy’? Why is Dr Phil ‘Daddy’?!

It’s a lot to break down in one sentence, I know – so I’ll start from the beginning.

Basically, for whatever reason, TikTok users have been commenting on Dr Phil McGraw’s posts on the social media platform calling him “daddy”, much to the confusion of the TV host.

If you’re confused as to what the creepy meaning behind the term is, aside from its normal use, then let sex therapist Vanessa Marin explain, via Broadly:

“Yes, ‘daddy’ can mean ‘father,’ but we also use the word to indicate when someone is the boss, in charge, a protector, or doing a good job. That’s usually the meaning women are going for in the bedroom. It’s a bit of a ’70s porn cliche. I’ve never run across a woman who called her partner ‘daddy’ because she genuinely liked fantasising that he was her father.”

Either way, Dr Phil isn’t having it, with the 70-year-old posting a TikTok video on Wednesday pleading with fans to stop calling him “daddy” in comments on his posts.

“I ain’t ya daddy. I hate to break it to you, but I ain’t ya daddy,” he said in the TikTok. “And your real daddy is probably getting his feelings hurt. I appreciate the support. It’s a little weird. But I do appreciate the support.”

Obviously, the video’s top commenters continued to call McGraw “daddy,” including some of the app’s biggest influencers like Madison Beer, who commented, “dad i’m so sorry.”

The famous Willy Wonka impersonator, @willywonkatiktok, added, “Can’t relate.”

Naomi Brook, another popular TikTok user under the username @naomiibrookk, said, “Daddy chill.”

Dr Phil posted the tongue-in-cheek video as part of the “you have to” TikTok trend, where users say people “have to stop” doing something — in this case, everyone has to “stop” saying that McGraw is their daddy.

Since the video has now gone viral, it’s likely to backfire spectacularly for the TV host as he inevitably brings on the Streisand effect – which means by asking people to stop calling him “daddy” he has even more people doing so.

Or maybe he wants to be our daddy? It’s 2020 – nothing shocks us anymore.
