One of the dangers of Donald Trump’s tenure as leader of the U.S., amongst many, was the presidency becoming a plaything for celebrities.
Kanye West infamously ran for the position; his wife Kim Kardashian West made a joke about her doing it on Saturday Night Live last week; Tom Hanks knows that everyone really wants him to be it.
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would also be a popular candidate, and, after an interview with Vanity Fair, the wrestler-turned-actor has responded to the latest calls for him to run for president, admitting that he doesn’t “know the first thing about politics.” Well, nor did Donald really, Dwayne.
Johnson took to Instagram over the weekend to respond to a recent poll that showed a huge 46% of Americans would vote for him if he ever decided to run for office.
“Conversations always swirl when it comes to me running for POTUS one day,” he said. “The latest poll showed that 46% of Americans would support me running for President.
For my @vanityfair interview, I spent a lot of time with my writer (and tequila drinking buddy:), Chris Heath about my honest feelings regarding this unbelievable support I potentially could have. But here’s the truth/ 46% of Americans galvanized in support me being President is so humbling and it really sits me down and I shake my head in awe.”
Johnson continued: “But at the end of the day, I don’t know the first thing about politics. I care deeply about our country. And I care about every fucking American who bleeds red — and that’s all of them. There’s no delusion here. I may have some leadership qualities but that doesn’t necessarily make me a great Presidential candidate. And that’s where I am today.”

He concluded: “I’m not a politician so I don’t care what side of the street you live on or what side of the aisle you sit on. Core values matter. Work hard, take care of your family, be kind to people, take pride in your name, take pride in your own two hands, be inclusive and respect EVERYONE and don’t be full of shit. I’m not a politician, but that’s the truth.”
Quite the level-headed response. Although if he ever did decide to genuinely run, his status as a WWE legend would probably stand him in good stead.
It’s not the first time Johnson has discussed the idea in public either. Back in 2017, he said on The Ellen Show that he was “seriously considering” running for president. He even got endorsed by Kevin Hart.
“You know what, the world that we’re living in today, you’re seeing the real effect that genuine people like Dwayne have, and the one thing about him is he’s very serious when it comes to spreading that love, that laughter and the up selling of life on a positive level,” the comedian said back then.
“If he were to put himself in that position, he would get my support whole heartedly … I know where his heart is. I really know him. So I know if he puts himself in that position, it’s for the better of the people, I can only applaud him and support him for doing that.”
