Dylan Alcott just keeps making history. After being named Australian of the Year and retiring from tennis at the pinnacle of the sport, he’s now set to be honoured with his own Madame Tussauds wax figure.
Alcott will be Madame Tussauds Sydney’s first-ever wheelchair figure, a huge mark of respect for the sportsman. His wax double will also sit in a replica chair of the one he used when he won his famous ‘Golden Slam’ last year.
He’ll be joining some esteemed sporting company in Madame Tussauds – Sally Pearson, Shane Warne, Tim Cahill, and fellow tennis icons Rod Laver and Lleyton Hewitt have already been immortalised in wax in the Sports Zone.
“Being approached to receive a Madame Tussauds wax figure is an absolute honour,” he shared. “I’m such a huge fan of the Madame Tussauds attractions, they’re home to the biggest celebrities in the world and I feel so proud that I’ll be amongst them!
4.5 million people in Australia are living with a physical or non-physical disability and we need greater representation of people with a disability in everyday life; being honoured with a wax figure is huge step in achieving that. Thank you to the Madame Tussauds team for helping to celebrate and normalise living with a disability. As part of the new tennis experience, guests will get to experience what it’s like to play wheelchair tennis – you’ll see it’s harder than it looks!”
Alcott attended Madame Tussauds today and brought fans along with him on Instagram as he went through the unique measuring process to start creating his wax figure. A team of eight took a whopping 100 measurements and 300 photographs of Alcott. Over the next eight months, his wax figure will be brought to life thanks to a team of highly skilled sculptors.
The official unveiling of Alcott’s wax figure will take place in late 2022. Keep an eye on the official Madame Tussauds Sydney Instagram page for further updates.
