Emma Watson has always been a bit of a style icon and her appearing in the new Harry Potter reunion special trailer for just a few minutes caused a huge 200% spike in demand for one fashion item.

HBO Max released the full trailer for Return to Hogwarts this week. The streaming platform has rounded up the cast and crew of one of the most beloved film series of all time to reminisce on the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (sorry for making you feel old).

Chief among the returning cast is Hermione Granger herself. Watson featured prominently in the trailer, sharing genuinely tender moments with Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. “When things get really dark, and times are really hard, there’s something about Harry Potter that makes life richer,” she said in the trailer, and that deep connection has had a knock-on effect in fashion this week already.

Within hours of the trailer debuting, Watson’s stunning appearance in the clip had brought about a fashion buzz. Global fashion marketplace Lovethesales.com – who track demand and sales data from over 10 million worldwide shoppers – offered some startling insights into Watson’s influence.

The actress caused an incredible 200% surge in demand for Black Earrings (compared to before the trailer’s release) after she sported a beautiful pair in the clip.

The rest of her outfit also attracted attention. Searches for Fringe Dresses went up by 154%, another huge leap. There was also a 60% rise in demand for Gold Nail Polish and a 42% increase in demand for Burgundy Coats.

That’s how you know you have some sway in the fashion world – I don’t see anyone out there trying to replicate Grint’s ensemble from the trailer (sorry Ron)!

Thankfully there’s not long left to wait until Return to Hogwarts arrives on HBO Max on January 1st, 2022. I can only wonder how much Watson’s going to influence fashion once the full special airs.
