The Emmys awards show has been criticised for failing to include Australian icon Olivia Newton-John in their ‘In Memoriam’ segment for actors.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Award, which were held today, honoured actors Betty White, Bob Saget, Sidney Poitier and James Caan in the actor’s ‘In Memoriam’ segment, but Newton-John wasn’t mentioned. However, a spokesperson for the Emmys told Fox News Digital that Olivia Newton-John was featured in the Creative Arts “In Memoriam” category that honors music and composers.

Regardless, social media users aren’t happy that Newton-John wasn’t included in the actor’s segment.

“So wrong. Olivia is so talented and contributed so much in her Lifetime. Beyond Heartbreaking to be overlooked,” one person tweeted.

Another penned, “Olivia Newton-John was an icon in so many of our lives. She was very visible on television. Just not quite visible enough to the @TelevisionAcad. How old was the research team on this? #DISGUSTING”. A third wrote, “Seriously @TelevisionAcad ? You omit icon and Emmy winner @olivianj from your in memoriam? What child does your research? Embarrassing. Let’s not talk about her groundbreaking tv specials, movies and Sordid Lives series?? And Norm MacDonald – a nominee this year? Sad. #Emmys2022.

Below are some socialmedia reactions to the omission of Newton-John’s mention in the Emmy’s ‘In Memoriam’ segment for actors.

During her extensive career, Newton-john starred in a number of popular TV shows including Sordid Lives: The Series, Bette, Murphy Brown and Ned and Stacey.

The actress and singer battled breast cancer for thirty years and passed away in her Californian home on August 8th, 2022 at age 73.

Days after her death, Newton-John’s husband John Easterling shared a touching tribute for his wife. He spoke about their love and his perception of the kind of person Newton-John was in life and as a partner. The couple had been married for 14 years prior to the Grease actress’s death.
