It’s welcome confirmation for Euphoria fans, who have been shipping Hunter and Dom ever since the latter made his season two debut as Elliot, who seems to be brewing up a heated love triangle with Hunter’s character Jules and her girlfriend Rue on the scandalous series.

The pair have been fuelling dating speculation for several weeks now, compounded by the fact that they were also seen holding hands while leaving the Nice Guy in West Hollywood last month.

At the beginning of the year, both Zendaya and Hunter spoke about Dominic jumping on board the series, admitting that they were hesitant about the inclusion of Fike’s character, Elliot.

“I remember when [creator] Sam [Levinson] first kind of talked about the idea of this Elliot character, I wasn’t feeling it—as someone who ships ‘Rules’ to the bitter end,” Zendaya told Variety, referring to her and Hunter’s characters.

“And I was like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, what are we doing here?’ But, in retrospect, and also as someone who understands where the show needs to go and what needs to happen for these characters, it’s crucial that Elliot exists and that he be the person that is honestly the catalyst for a lot of things that just have to happen.”

Hunter added, “I think I was in a similar boat to Z when I first heard about this ‘Elliot boy.’ But, you know, as we saw more of what it brought into the story and the script, it became a more interesting and exciting prospect, and once Dom came on board, he made it a lot of fun.”

Hunter has also been vocal about her sexual identity and her journey as a trans woman in previous interviews, noting that her experience often mirrors that of her character’s.

When speaking to the New York Times about gender as a concept, she said: “Earlier in my transition, I think I relied on a vantage point of the world that was very close to the gender binary and was only able to be myself in the gender-binary viewpoint.

“And as I’ve learned more about my community and come to understand gender as a spectrum, and the gender binary as something that’s nonexistent and a construct and a product of colonialism, I have sort of let go of the idea that I need to do the one or the other—and just let myself be.”
