There are two fascinating psychological thrillers arriving on Apple TV+ this July, including one of the final roles of the late Ray Liotta.

The six-part Black Bird hits the streaming platform on July 8th, an adaptation of the true crime memoir In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, And A Dangerous Bargain For Redemption.

Rocketman star Taron Egerton stars as Jimmy Keene, who makes a deal with the FBI to try and coax a confession out of a suspected serial killer. And with more than 18 victims to find, the stakes are high.

The memoir is being adapted for TV by master of mystery Dennis Lehane, who wrote Shutter Island, and it’s honestly not difficult to imagine Black Bird as a Martin Scorsese film.

The series is also notable for being the first posthumous release of the late, great Ray Liotta, with the actor wrapping up filming shortly before his death last month.

Another week, another intense psychological thriller. Arriving on July 29th, Surface follows a woman who suffers extreme memory loss following a traumatic head injury, believes to be the result of a suicide attempt.

All might not be as it seems though, with the woman beginning to doubt the truth being told to her as she attempts to piece her life back together with the help of her husband and friends.

There’s strong pedigree behind this project, with star and co-producer Gugu Mbatha-Raw being no stranger to Apple TV+ thanks to her role in flagship series The Morning Show. It’s also the creation of Veronica West, co-creator the criminally underrated High Fidelity, which memorably starred Zoë Kravitz.
