Ewan McGregor has spoken out against the racist comments sent to Obi-Wan Kenobi star Moses Ingram, saying the commenters are “no Star Wars fan in my mind.”

Sometimes we just can’t have nice things. No sooner had Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on Disney+ than the racists came crawling out of their holes. Ingram, who plays Reva in the new series, posted several examples of racist messages and comments on her Instagram, noting that some included the N-word.

“There’s nothing anybody can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate,” she said in a video posted to her Instagram Stories.

That led to many defending Ingram on social media. “We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist,” wrote the official Star Wars Twitter account.

“Racists have no place in our community. If you feel “attacked” by that simple statement, smash that unsubscribe button,” wrote Star Wars Explained.

And now Kenobi himself, Ewan McGregor, has got involved, resoundingly sending a message of support to his castmate. “Moses is a brilliant actor, she’s a brilliant woman, and she’s absolutely amazing in this series,” he said in the clip. “She brings so much to the series and so much to the franchise.”

McGregor then called out the people sending the messages. “I just want to say as the leading actor in the series and executive producer in the series that we stand with Moses,” he added. “If you’re sending her bullying messages, you’re no Star Wars fan in my mind. There’s no place for racism this world. I totally stand with Moses.”

This sorry ordeal is sadly nothing new for Star Wars: the franchise has a long history of racism, with John Boyega once receiving the same treatment as Ingram is now.
