HBO Max is currently trending on Twitter as speculation over the future of the streaming service begins to pick up.
HBO Max has its feet to the fire as a merger with Warner Bros Discovery+ is expected to happen any time. The exact details are still unknown but with signs such as HBO Max taking exclusives down from their services and massive layoffs to their workforce, everything is pointing towards some kind of reorganization.
Once Twitter began catching word of this, people began to react en mass. Many were worried where their favorite HBO Max shows would go, some were concerned for the employees being laid off, and the majority of people wanted to know the details of the upcoming “mega” streaming-service that is likely to remain standing when the dust is settled.
“HBO Max is expected to layoff around 70% of their development staff An insider says it “sounds like they’re not doing HBO Max scripted shows anymore with HBO taking over”

“Not this being my most viral tweet. I muted this, but this will be my last comment. It would be a weird move to fold HBO MAX into Discovery plus when until yesterday, I had no idea what a discovery plus was. The other way around would make more sense to me as a consumer”

“People calling it the best streaming service? For which content? They act like they don’t have even the money to upscale their shows or support a higher bitrate while some other streaming platforms keep greenlighting even better content regularly.”

“UPDATE from what I’m hearing:
New mega streaming service will combine all #WBDiscovery content
won’t have #HBO in the name
but it won’t have #Discovery in the name either
as I already reported, #HBOMax scripted rolled into #HBO
CNN+ style bloodbath for HBOMax employees”

“If Warner Bros kills #HBOMax then I will cancel and save a few dollars. Only reason I still have Netflix because my niece is addicted to some of the shows on there and watches them over and over.”
