North Carolina wrestling enthusiast Heaven Fitch has risen above the odds and come out on top in the state high school wrestling championship.
The wrestler took out the 106lb (48 kg) weight class last week, getting one hell of a hilarious snap standing over two ashen-faced competitors on the winner’s podium in the process.
“I’m just really overwhelmed … It’s like insane what I’ve done, it’s not fully sunken in yet,” she said in the aftermath.
Talking back in 2018 about the pushback she initially had from her parents, Fitch revealed that “they didn’t want me to wrestle.”
“I’m pretty sure it was because they didn’t want me to get hurt. But I would just be like, ‘Well, if they can do it, then I should be able to do it.’
She was far more frank after her victory on Saturday, noting that “I just wrestled my best, and I kind of dominated the match if I’m being honest.”
While competing against boys, Heaven Fitch became the first female wrestler to win an individual wrestling state championship in North Carolina.
That flex after her win! ?
