Getting There

With only a four hour flight from Sydney to Nadi, it’s any wonder Fiji is so popular with Australian families.

As soon as we arrive at Nadi airport, it’s clear Fijians love kids. Our two were even smothered with kisses and cuddles by the customs security guards! If you’re not comfortable with affection, stay home (and go to therapy).

Our Fiji holiday with the kids starts right away as our resort is only a 30 minute drive away from the airport. Our family continues to come back year after year to Raddison Blu on Denarau Island.

The room

We choose to stay in their one bedroom self contained apartment. The kitchen is super convenient to wash kids bottles and prepare light snacks. The washing machine and dryer means you can pack super light (although does one ever really pack ‘light’ with kids?).

The sofa in the living room turns into a huge lavish bed for our daughter, Gospel (four-years-old). We request a port-a-cot for Zion (18-months-old) and pop it in the living room with his sister. The room closes off from the main bedroom which leaves mummy and daddy with the most comfortable king size bed you’ll ever lay on.

Swimming pools

The secret weapon Raddison Blu holds over the other Fijian resorts is their swimming pools.

The kids pool has one kick ass waterslide. It seriously kept our kids entertained for hours each day and anything that can keep your kids busy while simultaneously sapping their energy so they sleep well is magic.

There is also a toddler pool where infants can waddle with their own baby slide (how cute).

More importantly, there’s an adults only pool with servers coming back and forth with cocktails and beer, allowing grown-ups to even have lunch by the pool in peace.

Nannies and Kids Club

But how do you go to the adults’ pool without the kids you ask? Raddison Blu’s other secret weapon: nannies!

We’ve stayed at a few Fijian resorts but we are yet to find a place with better nannies than the ones at Raddison Blu. You’ll see them in the swimming pools with the kids, taking them up and down the water slide (that thing is a hectic workout). They’ll also play games, sing songs, and the best part is, you’re not paying an arm or leg for such luxury.

Nannies cost $50FJD for three hours (two kids) which works out to be roughly $39AUD and they are worth every cent! We’ve had the same nanny look after our kids for the last two years because she has become family.

Gospel did not forget about her in the year between holidays and was so excited to see her again. She came with us to lunch, helped feed the kids so we could enjoy eating in peace and then took the kids for a swim. She would even bath them before they joined us for dinner, it was bliss.

The Banana Blu Kids Club is also great for kids of all ages. Their activities ranged from flower crown making to fish feeding, to disco nights. If you have a child under four though, they’ll need a nanny to go with them.

Nannies, also known as angels sent from above

Both adults and children were happy campers on this trip. If you’re thinking about a Fiji holiday with kids then we can’t think of a better place than Raddison Blu.
