So you’re without a Splendour In The Grass ticket, either by choice or not. Maybe you thought the FOMO would be bearable. And yet now you find yourself staring longingly at your still uncleaned gum boots, heart filling with nostalgia, subconsciously rubbing at your wrist where a wristband would proudly sit.

And all your mates are posting their #SITG selfies to Instagram. Dammit.

We can help you. You are bigger than FOMO – especially when there are plenty of great live music gigs lined up this weekend in Sydney. We’ve picked out five of the best, but check our gig guide for full listings.

1. 28 Days + Area-7

OK, sure, it’s maybe been about a decade since you last saw The Avalanches, but when was the last time you saw Area-7? Exactly.

28 Days and Area-7 will play at the Bald Faced Stag on Saturday July 23. Tickets are $34.

2.Fat White Family

Alright, fine, so Fat White Family are playing at Splendour and that kind of doesn’t help in forgetting all the other acts you’re missing. But can your Splendour-going friend say they also saw PinheadsandSolid Effort while they were trudging around in the mud?Didn’t think so.

Fat White Family, Pinheads and Solid Effort are on at Oxford Art Factory on Saturday July 23.Tickets are $44.80.

3. Duke Dumont

Duke Dumont is a pretty sweet pick to help ease your Splendour FOMO this weekend. The English DJ is guaranteedto bring the vibe, with basslines that are almost theraputic. Plus, his penchant for tropical house should also bring the summery festival vibes to the Metro, which is more than than the festivalgoers sleeping in tents in the middle of winter can say.

Only problem is, the gig’s sold out, so if you haven’t secured tix already, don’t bother. You’ll only end up out the front of Maccas on George Street, fighting against the stream ofPokémon Go players.

Duke Dumont will play at the Metro Theatre on Saturday July 23. If you’ve got your tickets, good for you.

4. The 1975

If it’s the big crowds, gigantic sound system and community vibes you’re pining for, The 1975 should deliver spectacularly. The boys are playing a huge show at the Sydney Showground. Even the toilet line will remind you of Splendour. Just kidding; this gig is readymade for festival vibes, and it’s just a short train ride from the CBD.

The 1975 are playing at the Sydney Showground on Saturday July 23, with Cub Sport in support. Tickets are $80.

5. Space Bong

And if you can’t get out of your no-Splendour-slump after all this great live music, you best be heading to this seven-piece doom orchestra that will play odes to your sorrows. It’s all doom and gloom with Space Bong.

Space Bong will play with Dispossessed, Hawkoth and Burlap on Saturday July 23 at Newtown Social Club. Tickets are $18.

If all this live music doesn’t cure your Splendour envy, then… why not turn your Pokémon Gohunt into a camping trip? OK, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel now. Do yourself a favour – buy a ticket next year.
