The original Sex and the City series is iconic for so many reasons. And one of those many reasons stand out from the rest. What is it you may ask? The fashion risks.
To me, watching an episode of Sex and the City is like living vicariously through the characters, that meaning of course, taking all the fashion risks as I take on everything New York City has for me.
While I must admit there are many outfits that I definitely couldn’t attempt to pull off, it occurred to me that right now, there is an abundance of clothing and accessories out there that could see you taking the plunge a la 2000’s Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda… and of course their baes.
Whether it’s a complete outfit or an accessory to throw into the mix, below you’ll find five key pieces to add to your wardrobe.
SJP sunglasses that look straight outta 2003
Sarah Jessica Parker aka Carrie Bradshaw is a shoe obsessor IRL and on screen. And in case you didn’t know, over the last couple of years, Parker has begun building her own shoe empire. As part of her business, she recently collaborated with Sunglass Hut to bring us a pair of shades that are so Carrie circa 2003. And they are essential to pulling off any Bradshaw look. There may be multiple times that the SATC squad retreat from the hustle and bustle of NYC in search of something a little more relaxed. Cue LA. And of all their LA adventures, Samantha’s blue co-ord is a hot contender for best outfit on ground. It was only a matter of time before a fashion brand got to work on paying homage on the iconic look. And luckily, we’ve found it here by Paloma Wool.
Miranda Hobbes embodying the original cosy girl look
While Samantha may have owned her LA wardrobe, no one has anything on Miranda’s iconic cosy girl look on the streets of NYC. In that episode, Miranda’s feeling pretty down in the dumps about love and all that jazz. So she decides to take a pensive walk on the street. Unfortunately she runs into an ex-boyfriend she had hoped to never see again. Don’t worry, Miranda’s outfit was better than his. Especially that puffer. Shop a similar one here at Patagonia.
Charlotte in her blazer being peak Park Avenue preppy
I always loved it when Charlotte pulled a fashion risk. But there’s something to be said for how amazingly she pulled off Park Avenue prep. Think back to her iconic blazer moment, embellished with her stunning Louis Vuitton x Murakami Papillon shoulder bag. Shop a similar style blazer at Uniqlo.
Smith Jerrod’s ‘fuck yoga’ t-shirt
This t-shirt is just a mood. That is all. Grab it on Etsy here.
