Many Commonwealth Bank customers were left unable to access their funds on Wednesday when the bank went offline during an outage. To apologize for the inconvenience many customers noticed a 50 dollar deposit in their accounts, along with a sorry note.

Many of the banks customers have taken to social media to celebrate the free money.

However, not all Commonwealth Bank users will be receiving the money.  Replying to disgruntled users on Twitter, Commbank said it was reviewing the payments on a case by case basis.

“We’re very sorry about this and to apologise we have made a goodwill gesture payment into customer accounts who have been significantly impacted.

“No action is required to receive the payment.”

However, if you’re a Commonwealth Bank customer and haven’t received the payment, there’s still hope.

“When a customer contacts us we will review their situation on a case by case basis,” the bank shared on Twitter.

On Wednesday the bank had an outage, leaving many bank customers unable to pay for their purchases. During the outage tap and pay wasn’t available, and users couldn’t log into online banking. Many people took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

The first reports of the system go down were on the morning of June 23rd and the system wasn’t fully restored until the morning of June 24th.

It’s not the first time the bank has offered a one-time pay out, CommBank deposited $50 into customer’s accounts following a similar outage in 2019.
