French police have opened an official murder inquiry after a customer attacked a waiter at a pizzeria on the outskirts of Paris (in the Noisy-le-Grande suburb).

According to witnesses, the waiter was fatally shot by a customer inside the pizzeria and sandwich eatery, named Mistral, on the outskirts of Paris, the impetus for the shooting being that the waiter had made the customer wait for a sandwich. This allegedly enraged the customer, leading him to commit murder.

Colleagues of the waiter then called the police, after he was shot in the shoulder with a handgun in the Noisy-le-Grand suburb, 15km east of Paris’ city centre on Friday night.

All attempts to revive the 28-year-old failed, and he eventually died at the scene. The Paris waiter was simply doing his job at the time of the murder.

The gunman who is now wanted for murder, fled the scene. Witnesses say he lost his temper “as his sandwich was not prepared quickly enough.” All that is currently known is that the man was alone at the time of the shooting.

French police have now officially opened a murder investigation. The whereabouts of the shooter are still unknown.

By Saturday, the shooter was still on the run, and residents who were shocked at the happenings inside the pizzeria and sandwich eatery, gathered around the premises. One resident, clearly in disbelief stated: “He was killed for a sandwich?”

“It is sad,” said a 29-year-old woman. “It is a quiet restaurant, without any problems. It just opened a few months ago.”

Others noted high crime levels in the area, notably drug-dealing and public drunkenness.

Ultimately, no matter the state of the area, an immense tragedy has taken place, and our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the 28-year-old at this time.
