Too soon for a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot? Apparently not.

It seems like only yesterday that (the character) Will Smith was up to his classic antics as the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – teasing his cousins Carlton Banks, played by Alfonso Ribeiro and Hilary Banks, played Karyn Parsons.

The original sit-com is officially being reimagined as a drama reboot series and is being backed by the TV network, Peacock.

Now the very first and arguably most crucial role in the Fresh Prince franchise: Will Smith has been casted.

As reported by Variety, in the role, they’ve casted an up and coming actor by the name of Jabari Banks.

Just like his character, Will Smith, Banks is a West Philadelphia native. In 2020 he graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and also has talent in the areas of acting, songwriting, singing, rapping and basketball.

The reboot all came into fruition off the back of a video made by Morgan Cooper, which reimagined the original sit-com as a drama.

After it had got massively viral, Peacock officially ordered in two seasons of the show.

While the tone and vibe of the show will differ to the original as well as the new format set to episodes one-hour in length, the new series will still follow Will Smith’s relocation to Bel-Air, with all of the accompanying highs and lows.

Hopefully unlike the original show, there’ll be less drama and more transparency coming from the set and its cast members.
