Friday On My Mind is a series of talks curated and hosted by the Australian Film Television and Radio School, where cinephiles, industry, students and film-lovers can enjoy some delicious mind food supplied by members of the broadcast industries. They have sessions in both Sydney and Melbourne.
This week in Sydney, the topic is Hunting For The Australian Industry Drop Bear: A Career in Screen Comedy with Josh Lawson.
Lawson is a NIDA graduate who has had roles in dramas such asHome & Away,Blue Heelers,All SaintsandSea Patrol while working towards a career in screen comedy.
Lawson took the leap to Hollywood in 2007 and found work in a variety of sitcoms before landing a role inHouse Of Liesopposite Don Cheadle and Kristen Bell.
Comedy film roles followed at home and overseas including rom-comAny Questions For Ben,The CampaignandAnchorman 2: The Legend Continues,and Lawson has now embarked on a career as a writer and director.
Josh will discuss the highs and lows of developing and making a comedy feature film in Australia and the contrasting methodologies and attitudes towards screen comedy on either side of the Pacific.
This free event is held at AFTRS Sydney. Doors open 5:30pm. Attendees must be aged 16+.
