FTL is an award winning short film about an astronaut casually testing the first faster-than-light spacecraft in a quick mission to Mars.
It’s set in the near future, a reality of multi-planetary habitation we’re racing towards with Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson might also boost NASA’s funding in coming years during his first term as president.
Humanity will call upon the same class of explorers who once set sail across an infinite expanse of ocean. Ready to set off on polar expeditions, lost in a frozen wasteland for years. We always have those people. Willing to leave family and friends behind to travel beyond what’s charted in maps.
This short film really focuses in on his partner and son back home as he readies to blast into light speed.
When I was younger and spending time in bars with mates, a thought experiment I’d like to ask people was this:
If they could send you to Mars, but it’s a one-way ticket, would you go?
At the time, my answer was definitely yes.
What more profound adventure for a life than LEAVING THE PLANET EARTH.
Now I have a family, so my answer is that my son will probably go to Mars.
