After many battles and sieges during the course of ‘Game of Thrones’ Winterfell has finally succumbed to fire and will not rise again.

End of an era for the ‘Game of Thrones’ Winterfell set, built in Moneyglass, Northern Ireland. Particularly for the Season 8 episode “The Long Night,” where the united front of Daenerys’ forces and the North fought against the Night King and his armies, prevailing against the deadliest siege Winterfell had ever seen.

It was a “controlled burning” according to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was pictured near the village of Moneyglass at around 6pm.
Following inquiries, a spokesperson for the fire service confirmed they were aware of the controlled fire and said those responsible were overseeing the burn.

This is not the first time the Winterfell set has been on fire, although for very different circumstances while filming Season 8 of Game of Thrones.

Winterfell is expected to appear at some point during the spinoff show ‘House of the Dragon’, which takes place roughly 200 years before ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 1, although at a reduced role as the show will largely follow the Targaryens.’House of the Dragon’ will debut in 2022 with ten episodes. You can watch the official teaser trailer here. It’s showrunned by Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnick, the latter being the one who directed classic GoT episodes such as ‘Hardhome’, ‘Battle of the Bastards’ and ‘The Winds of Winter’.
