Boundary-pushing, operatic theatre, Glorias is the world premiere andunlikely onstage collision of John Cassavetes’ 1980 movieGloriawith J.S. Bach’s monumentalBrandenburg Concerti.
Neither opera nor a recital, Glorias is rather a completely disobedient performance. It willchallenge audience assumptions about performance conventions and the relationship between soloist, accompanist and audience to create a unique concert experience.
Director Nigel Kellaway of The Opera Project explains, “I adore the work of J.S.Bach and John Cassavetes. They are diverse pleasures, but I like to indulge all my passions at once. My mission with Glorias is to increase the heart rate.”
Gloriaswill see pianists,Benjamin Au and Michael Bell, to play together on the one piano, creating a theatrical whirlwind of sound, text and movement that showcases the Powerhouse Museum’s Stuart & Sons extended grand piano. TheGloriaswill beperformed by Kathy Cogill, Nikki Heywood and Katia Molino.
