In the past week, two documentaries have been released about the bizarre scam that was Fyre Fest. Hulu released FYRE FRAUD and Netflix followed up a few days later with FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened. Both documentaries investigate the clusterfuck “luxury” festival and the events that lead to its downfall. The organiser and conman behind the debacle, Billy McFarland, has been sentenced to six years prison. The whole thing is a wild fucken’ ride.
Whilst some are relishing in the fact a bunch of influencers got stitched up. The festival had a dire impact on the local people of the Bahamas, who helped organisers build the whole thing. It left Elvis and Maryann Rolle, owners of Great Exuma restaurant, $50k out of pocket after they were forced to pay their workers out of their own life savings.

As Vulture reports, The Rolle’s have since set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the loss incurred. The GoFundMe campaign reads, “As I make this plea it’s hard to believe and embarrassing to admit that I was not paid…I was left in a big hole! My life was changed forever, and my credit was ruined by Fyre Fest. My only resource today is to appeal for help. There is an old saying that goes ‘bad publicity is better than no publicity’ and I pray that whoever reads this plea is able to assist.”
Their goal was to raise $123,000. They’ve currently raised $124,161. Whilst it’s fucked that this happened in the first place and all faux-entrepreneur egomaniacs deserve to sit in hell for eternity and think about all their half-baked plans. It’s nice to know that there is a lot of good in humanity.
