Legendary Australian graffiti writer, Gane 2, has long been a revered and mysterious figure in the local underground hip hop scene. Now, thanks to award-winning filmmaker Jay Richards, his story will finally be told in the feature-length documentary, Citizen Gane.
Set to premiere for one night only at Dendy Cinemas in Newtown, Sydney, chronicles Gane 2’s life, from his early days as a young artist in the 1980s, to his lasting influence on the Australian graffiti and hip hop community, and his untimely passing in October 2022.
The documentary features interviews with over two dozen graffiti writers, family members, and friends, and features original music composed by hip hop crew Def Wish Cast.

Director and Producer Jay Richards won multiple awards for his recent film Resolve, including Best Short Film and Best Director at the Cannes Awards, Paris Cinefest, and the Singapore World Film Carnival.
Richards said: “This documentary has been a few years in the making, and an amazing experience telling Gane’s story. I’m very proud of this film, and thankful to everyone who participated in its production.”
Tickets for the premiere sold out in less than 23 hours.
