Griffin Theatre has announced a week-long run of Through A Distant Lens, a multi-artform exhibit that celebrates the life of early 20th century photographer Yasukichi Murakami.

Presented by Performance 4a and The Griffin Threatre Company, Through A Distant Lens tells the story of Murakami, a photographer who migrated to Australia in 1897, and how his comfortable life in Darwin was taken away from him during WWII, and the subsequent loss of his life and photographs.

Fellow photographer Mayu Kanamori is the creator/writer behind the project, and the Japanese-Australian cast, including Arisa Yura, Kuni Hashimoto and Yumi Umiumare, embody the ghost of Murakami and the women who loved him.

Yasukichi Murakami: Through A Distant Lens runs at Griffin Theatre from Friday February 13 – Saturday February 21.
