A picture says a thousand words… but who’s got time for that? MikiNobu Komatsu keeps its simple: he’s produced a series of evocative landscapes around the South Island of New Zealand, each complemented by a haiku penned by the Japanese photographer.
NZ has captivated Komatsu’s imagination over the last few decades, and has resulted in an extensive book,Light Moods South,from which the works for his exhibition are selected. Komatsu has dabbled with Cibachrome, a direct print from transparency filim, which lends a depth to his images due to the unique layering of dye, not chemicals. The haiku, that well-dressed emotional suckerpunch, expounds his images succinctly.
Light Moods South is showing at Stanley Street Gallery in Darlinghurst from Wednesday September 10 – Saturday September 27.
