I will admit I’ve feigned interest about various American fast-food chains arriving in Australia for the sake of editorial pizazz (looking at you In-N-Out), but this is news that genuinely has me salivating. US burger joint Five Guys is reportedly preparing to grace Aussie shores.

The rumour mill that the burger lords were looking at setting up camp is Aus began churning in mid-last year. Now it’s looking like 2021 is the year that Five Guys makes a home in Sydney.

As Good Food report, the Seagrass Boutique Hospitality group – the guys behind The Meat & Wine Co, Hunter Barrel, 6 Head, and Ribs & Burgers – has picked up the local franchise rights, and is currently sussing out the Sydney CBD.

Five Guys has already expanded from its US home to locations across the UK, Europe, Middle East and Singapore. The Sydney addition would mark the chains first southern hemisphere expedition.

A spokesperson for the Seagrass group, confirmed that they “are looking to open our first store in early 2021.” Incredibly good shit.

Sydney has some pretty red hot burger spots littered around our concrete jungle, and Five Guys will be a welcome addition to the family (Mary’s will always be the GOAT).

It’s very cool and I am very much a Five Guys fan but it really does beg the question — when the fuck are we getting a Pret a Manger. I’m down with burgers, love em, but we almost have too many good burgs on offer. The one thing this city is sorely lacking? A perfectly crafted egg and watercress sandwich.

All I want in this life of mine is the freedom to lug myself to a Pret, abuse their free wifi, start my day off with one of their delicious ready-made porridge’s, sip on a perfect soy latte (best coffee in the UK btw), graduate to an egg’n’cress, slam down another soy boy and repeat the process.
