Here’s where to watch the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Australia

Queen Elizabeth Platinum Jubilee

It’s a momentous time for Queen Elizabeth II and royalists everywhere as she gets set to celebrate 70 years as Britain’s reigning Monarch with the Platinum Jubilee.

And Lizzy deserves a little fanfare after the tough few years she’s had: one son was revealed to be damnably despicable; her grandson fled the coop; she lost her husband and saw her own health deteriorate.

Her subjects are pulling out all the stops to make the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee one to remember. Over a four-day bank holiday weekend – not for us Aussies, our holiday comes later – there will be several major events taking place.

And with millions of Aussies still enjoying a bit of Pommy pomp, we thought we’d put together a handy guide to how to catch all the action from Britain this weekend.

Trooping The Colour

The traditional ceremony performed by regiments of the British Army dates all the way back to the 17th century. The action – action may be a strong word, it’s simply a slow procession – kicks off on Thursday, June 2nd at 8:30pm AEST, and will be available to watch on Channel 7 and 7HD.

Once the horse and carriages finally trot their way down The Mall to Buckingham Palace, the event will end at 11:50pm with a balcony appearance from the royals and an RAF flyover.

Platinum Party at the Palace

All the Queen’s favourite artists are gathering for this huge event. Alicia Keys will be there; Craig David is obviously performing; George Ezra, Ella Eyre, and Mimi Webb will bring some youthful energy to proceedings; Queen (with Adam Lambert in tow) will be there, because it’s a legal requirement to have Queen perform at any large-scale British event.

Diana Ross is headlining, which is genuinely exciting, with the event being her first U.K. performance in 15 years. Theatre will also be represented, with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lin-Manuel Miranda joining forces with a collective performance of their hit stage shows.

The Platinum Party takes place on Saturday, June 4th, and will air on Channel 7 and 7 HD on Sunday, June 5th at 7pm AEST.

Jubilee Pageant

The Queen’s birthday bash ends on Sunday, June 5th with the Jubilee Pageant taking place throughout the streets of London. Featuring a special live performance by Ed Sheeran, it’s expected to be shown on Channel 7 and 7 HD on Sunday evening or Monday (official time to come).
