After last week’s close encounter with Greyscale, fans are worried about a troubling mark on Daemon’s neck in House of the Dragon E4.

House of the Dragon Episode 4 SPOILERS

In House of the Dragon Episode 4, a certain loose end from the previous episode cropped up again in a scene in which Prince Daemon’s neck is exposed to the audience. When Viserys leap on top of Daemon, brandishing the Catspaw dagger to his neck, a patch of his skin appears to be in a damaged state.

Whether it’s a scar, a birth defect, a burn, or greyscale is still yet to be known. However, given the information we received last episode, many viewers are thinking the damaged skin could be Greyscale that the King of the Stepstones contracted (possibly) while slaying Prince Drahar.

“So nobody is gonna say anything about the rash on Daemon’s neck? #hotd

“Bro, Daemon has greyscale. Look at his mf neck.”

“I figured he’d get it after killing that crab guy who had it all over him smh”

“Does Daemon have grey scale? Looking at his neck and chest, it looks different.

In the previous episode of House of the Dragon, Episode 3, Prince Daemon Targaryen finally manages to kill Prince Drahar, or the Crabfeeder, in single combat. This was the culmination of a multi-year war for the Stepstones between the Triarchy of Free Cities and the alliance between Daemon Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon.

When Daemon emerged from the cave in which he slew Drahar, he was holding the remains of the Crabfeeder’s body by his wrist. This prompted many to begin speculating, as the showrunners recently confirmed that Drahar was afflicted by Greyscale. When the two made contact, it wasn’t clear if Drahar’s wrist was affected by the disease, which is infamous for spreading by contact.

Fans now think it is a possibility that Daemon contracted the deadly disease, at that moment, but we have yet to see the outcome. Greyscale is seemingly random with how fast it spreads, which serves nicely as a plot point that the storytellers can bend however they like to fit their needs.

One aspect that may come into play is the Targaryen’s belief that some among their ranks hold a special property in their blood that makes them immune to disease. Whether Daemon inherited this ability remains to be seen. Although, it is more than likely that this a lie the Targaryen’s tell to make themselves feel separate from other people, as many of them have died from diseases.
