The first season of ‘House of the Dragon’ has only just finished, but fans are already eagerly awaiting a return to Weteros.

HBO’s Game of Thrones spin-off has been met with raving reviews from critics and fans alike. Though there was some initial hesitancy, following the rocky reception of GOT’s final season, all doubt has disappeared following a monumental first season.

As to be expected, the final episode left audience’s on a massive cliffhanger and hungry for what a second season of the hit show will hold.

Speaking with Vulture, HBO chief Casey Bloys has suggested that fans could be waiting quite a while.

“Don’t expect it in 2023,” said Bloys. “But I think sometime in 2024… We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns. It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it.”

Previously, George R. R. Martin has elaborated on just how many season’s would be needed to do the book Fire and Blood justice.

“There are only so many minutes in an episode… And only so many episodes in a season,” said Martin. “It is going to take four full seasons of 10 episodes each to do justice to the Dance of the Dragons, from start to finish.”

Though the wait may seem painful, it may be the last lengthy gap between Game of Thrones content, with the development of several spin-offs in the work.

Most notebally is that of Corlys Velaryon who debuted in the recent series. Steve Toussaint’s character will lead a series based on his famous nine voyages and is currently titled The Sea Snake.

In the final episode of House of the Dragon, Corlys returned from years of absence and it is expected that his saga will take place in these missing years.

But for now, we’ll just have to wait until Martin lets something slip.
