Look, the Facebook page for this event has used up all the clever HIMYM references I could have unleashed in this intro, so let’s play this straight.

How I Met Your Mother was a hit sitcom, and very much the Friends of its time.

In fact, the charmingly offensive tone, evergreen perils-of-dating plotlines, built-in nostalgia element, and the fact they were a friend group who actually spent large swathes of time with each other IRL and glaring at screens means this show, as with Friends now, will be more popular with teens/college kids in the 2030s than it was at its peak. Oh, spoiler alert.

Anyway, Hudson Ballroom is/are (depending on how you choose to personify a building) having a How I Met Your Mother tribute party this Sunday night, with dress-ups, and themed DJ sets from DJ Levins, FlexMamai and Mowgli May.

Here are some costume suggestions, courtesy of the organisers:

Storm Trooper
Ducky Tie
Bikini shirt
Lazer tag outfit
Suit Up!
Swarley sign
Canadian hockey jerseys
Slutty pumpkin
Eye patch
Elvis outfit

Tickets are available here, or try your luck on the night. Now, let’s listen to a Robin Sparkles jam.
