Hunter Schafer has broken her silence over the controversy that has clouded her in recent weeks for liking a transmedicalist Instagram post blaming nonbinary trans people for a Florida bill restricting trans medical rights.
The drama kicked off late last month when her official Instagram account liked a post that puts blame on nonbinary trans people for a Florida bill pushed by the Desantis Administration that just recently took away medical care for 9,000 transgender Floridians.
The Instagram post in question, coming from Instagram user piggytaiwan, points the finger at nonbinary trans people for the stripping of medical rights from all trans folk that were covered by medicaid.
Surprisingly, the Euphoria star stayed quiet about her views, and many took her silence as a sign that she was anti-nonbinary. However, Schafer has finally addressed the backlash and stated that she “holds absolutely no hatred towards non-binary folks”.
The 23-year-old posted series of photos to Instagram and captioned the post, “bye summer see u next year”. Shortly after the original post, the actress took to her own comments section to address the matter.
“Also, while we are here, I hold absolutely no hatred towards nonbinary folks,” she began.”I agreed with another t-girl’s post in which she pointed out an imbalance in the visibility and space-taken up between non-binary folks and binary trans women (particularly those of color and/or those who have resulted to sex work as a means of survival) that I think deserves attention/ re-evaluation (as far as resources and platforms go) within the LGBTQ+ community.
“I am not a trans medicalist, and my ideology around transness does not align with transmedicalism, nor a disdain towards nb identifying people,” she concluded.
