IKEA are bringing in vegetarian hot dogs, as part of an overall mission to “include more plant-based ingredients” in their food offerings – which we all know is their secret focus.
It’s currently being trialled at one Swedish store, with the plan being to hit all of Europe by August.
Hopefully in Australia we’ll be eating those sweet veggie dogs by Xmas, taking the sting out of the fact that one of the wheel-screws was missing in our desk chair.
Mashable contacted IKEA food services to get the complete low-down, and they revealed that the final product will actually be vegan, adding an extra level of smug righteousness to the menu.
“The [current] recipe is vegetarian, but for the test production sold at the Malmö store we were not able to secure that all ingredients in the test production were 100% vegan. Our aim is for the final product to be made using a vegan recipe.”
