Those saving up for the iPhone 12 should be aware that it will cost more than you may expect.
We all expect iPhones to cost an arm and leg these days and the newly announced iPhone 12 is no different. However, it seems like you’re going to be paying even more this time around than ever before just to get the bare essentials we’ve come to expect from an Apple product.
Apple has unveiled four new devices during its iPhone 12 event, all of which are a pretty decent jump from the iPhone 11 of yesteryear.
While the new device packs a considerable amount of oomph underneath the hood, a better camera, and more size variety compared to its predecessor, the most striking thing about the iPhone 12 is its looks.
Eschewing its usual curved edge look, the iPhone 12 has gone back to the flat edge look that is reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 days.

Your mileage may vary on the iPhone 12’s design – some may like the flat edge look while others may think it is outdated. Personally I dig the flat edge look but that’s just me.
As for how much each device will cost, the price tags are as follows (as per Gizmodo):
- iPhone 12 – $1,349
- iPhone 12 Mini – $1,199
- iPhone 12 Pro – $1,699
- iPhone 12 Pro Max – $1,849
But perhaps the biggest thing to come out of the iPhone 12 event is the announcement that every new device will be shipped without wall chargers or Lightning EarPods, thus confirming rumours from several months ago. However, it will come with a USB-C to Lightning cable so that’s something at least.
Apple states that the decision to not include a charger or earbuds was made on environmental grounds. The company hopes the move will reduce the iPhone 12’s environmental impact as fewer raw materials will be consumed in the production and shipping of each device.
On one hand, it makes sense on an environmental level to not ship with a wall charger or new EarPods, not to mention how most Apple users have both those things already.
On the other hand, wall chargers and EarPods are easily lost and those hoping to get new ones with their iPhone 12 will have to shell out more dollarydoos to get them.
But hey, it’s all for the good of the environment and that’s all that really matters!
