The Irwin Family Zoo has officially announced that they are opening up their doors to marriage proposals and offer several accommodations.
The Irwin Family Zoo has announced on its website that they are planning to open up the venue to wedding services such as marriage proposals and weddings themselves.
“Whether you are looking for a small, intimate experience or a larger scale event, Australia Zoo is the perfect location for your wedding celebrations,” the website reads.
The website continued, “Let the Crikey Crew help you pop the question! Our world-famous Australia Zoo grounds create the perfect setting for such a timeless moment between you and your future fiancé.”
“Learn from our passionate keepers about each animal’s unique personality and fall in love, just like us!”
“There are two romantic packages for you to choose from. Both are completely flexible and can be tailored to suit your needs.”
The zoo could’ve possibly opened up this service to increase its income following the pandemic when it had to continue paying for animal care despite a lack of visitors.
Australia Zoo in Queensland is home to more than 1,000 animals, many of them endangered. The zoo was closed to the public but the animals still needed constant care. “We still had 200 staff coming to care for the animals and the gardens and our food outlets — all with essentially no income,” Terri Irwin said.
The Irwin family includes Terri’s son Robert, 16, and daughter Bindi, 21, who recently got married to American wakeboarder Chandler Powell, 23.
“We got married and immediately went to caring for 1,200 animals with no guests and no money,” says Chandler. “We’ve become closer than ever, and in [Saturday’s special] you get to see me get bitten on the face by a snake,” he says. “So there’s some bloodsport as well.”
While Australia hadn’t suffered as badly as other countries with COVID-19 at that point, Terri quickly offered her support. “Our hearts go out to our friends and family and organisations we support in America. We’re hoping we can stand together with others and offer encouragement.”
